6 Things To Do in Grenada | The Spice of the Caribbean

Grenada aka the Spice of the Caribbean is a beautiful destination in Southern Caribbean and is a country on my travel bucket list.

Grenada has a population of only 110,000 people, making it a relaxing place to visit because it is not overcrowded. There are many things in Grenada that make it a lovely place to visit such as beautiful landscape, pristine beaches, snorkelling, spices, festivals, chocolate and more.

It is also part of the tri islands made up of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Whilst I have not visited Grenada physically I had the amazing opportunity where I was #flewedouttogrenada on a virtual press trip hosted by Pure Grenada and Black Travel Creators. I loved learning more about Grenada and what the island has to offer. I can tell you for sure I will be visiting Grenada soon when I get the chance.

Below I have listed a few things I plan on doing when visiting Grenada, that you can do too!

1. Visit the House of Chocolate

The House of Chocolate is a mini museum showing the history of chocolate, along with a gift shop and café. The gift shop also carries a range of chocolates from all the factories on the island : Grenada Chocolate Company, Diamond Chocolate Factory, Belmont Estate, Crayfish Bay Estate and Tri-island Chocolate.

This is a great place to try and taste chocolate from Grenada. Trust me the chocolate tastes good as I was sent one in a goody bag.

2. Try Diving or Snorkelling

Grenada and its sister island Carriacou in the Caribbean are perfect for an underwater adventure. Grenada has an Underwater Sculpture Park which is perfect to explore. Diving or snorkelling in Grenada is perfect for adventure seekers who want to try something new.

PS. If you don’t want to get wet or can’t swim you can join a boat ride with a clear glass bottom.

3. Try Oil Down, the national dish

Oil down is Grenada’s national dish. It is a stew made up of breadfruit, meat, chicken, dumplings, callaloo and other vegetables stewed in coconut milk, herbs and spices into a one pot meal. It looks so delicious and I can’t wait to try it!

4. Relax on the Beach

You can’t visit Grenada and not take a trip to the beach! Grenada has so many well kept beaches where you can relax, take a dip in the sea, read a book or simply listen to the sound of waves.

There are many popular beaches such as Magazine Beach, Grand Anse Beach, Sauteurs Bay and Sandy Island (Carriacou). Whatever beach you decide to visit, I’m almost certain you will feel relaxed and refreshed after spending some time there.

5. Attend one of the many festivals

Grenada in the Caribbean has many festivals throughout the year, where you can have a lot of fun and learn more about the culture.

The main festival is the annual ‘Spicemas Festival‘ which is a celebration of music, colour, costumes and fun. It begins in July and continues into early August as it gains momentum in the second Monday and Tuesday with Carnival Monday and Tuesday celebrations.

Other festivals happen during the year such as the Annual Grenada Sailing Festival, Grenada Chocolate Festival and the Grenada Drum Festival. You can find out more here.

6. Visit Annandale Waterfall

Annandale Falls is located on the southwest side of the Island and is a short drive from the capital of St Georges. You are free to take a dip or simply marvel at the landscape and beauty. Who does not love a waterfall?

As you can see there are many things to do in Grenada. It is a perfect place to relax and also experience some adventure. There are many activities for a solo trip, family trip, group trip or romantic getaway. Grenada is pretty much perfect for any type of trip and I hope to visit soon.
