The White Orchid Hotel Review | Where To Stay in Lagos Nigeria

The White Orchid Hotel is a modern boutique hotel in Lekki Lagos, Nigeria. While in Lagos I stayed at the White Orchid Hotel for 4 nights and this is my review. I have mainly positive things to say and only one negative thing to mention . If you have no affiliation to Nigeria but want to visit West Africa, I personally recommend Ghana for your first trip to West Africa. If you still want to visit Lagos I recommend checking out my 12 Things To Know in Lagos Before Visting before visiting Lagos Nigeria for the first time.

General Information

The White Orchid is a boutique hotel based in Victoria Island. The hotel is connected to EbonyLife Place who also owns the hotel. There is a mini restaurant and bar in the hotel and free WiFi throughout the property. In Ebony Life Place there is a pool, 2 restaurants (one being a rooftop), a cinema and areas to sit and chill. The hotel has 24-hour front desk and provides room service.

On arrival to the hotel we received welcome drinks made by the bar and in our room we had a fruit platter waiting for us! It was so lovely and a lovely touch.

Hotel Location

The hotel is located in Victoria Island on  72 Adetokunbo Ademola Street. It is basically opposite Eko Hotel and is honestly in a great place for tourists. You can easily get to the main areas in VI and get to Lekki easily. I met a range of foreigners at the hotel from Germany, America and the UK.

The hotel is approximately 45 minutes to an hour from the Lagos airport due to it being located on the island.

The Room

I ended up staying in two different room on my stay. I spent 2 nights in a deluxe suite and 2 nights in a deluxe room at The White Orchid.

The deluxe suite was a large room, a separate living room, and a balcony. The living room had a TV, sofa, AC and gave cosy vibes. The room also had AC, tea making facilities, a safe, a fridge and the bathrooms were clean! The balcony was a good size, while the views were not necessarily amazing, it is great to be able to sit outside and chill.

The deluxe room is a normal sized room with a bathroom. There is a TV in the room, a fridge and  we also had small balcony. I don’t think a balcony is common in this type of room but we had small one with no chairs.

One thing I did love was that each room had a vinyl record player playing Nigerian musicians!

On booking.com it said the rooms have streaming services such as Netflix on the TV but I did not use it so I can’t confirm if it was there!  We paid £210 for 4 nights but split between two people is £105 each and we paid in naira. Please bear in mind that for two nights we were upgraded to the deluxe suite due to the issue below so keep that in mind when reading my review.

Cleanliness

The hotel was generally clean. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean too! I have no complaints here.

Safety

I felt generally safe at the hotel. The security guards even stopped me a few times when coming to check who I was.  There is always security and you can’t park inside unless you say you have a booking.

Hotel Amenities

The hotel has two restaurants – one is called Jinja and the other is Turaka rooftop restaurant. Jinja is an asian fusion restaurant and  Turaka has a range of dishes including local dishes.67 I think the rooftop is very nice and there are sometimes events that happen. The hotel also has a pool and a cinema. These amenities are located in EbonyLife Place next door and you have direct access to these amenities due to the hotel being owned by them.

Breakfast & Food

During my stay, there was a list of breakfast options and you could pick from them so I tried most of the options. There were also other options which you could pay for.

The options I tried were the Nigerian Breakfast (plantain/yam and egg), American breakfast (pancakes) and the French toast breakfast. Breakfast also came with a fruit salad or a fruit juice and tea or coffee. My sister went back to stay with my mum a few weeks after our stay there and they had apparently changed up the breakfast to buffet style due to peak season. My sister felt like it was not on par with the breakfast which you can just pick. Apparently you can ask for one of the menu items instead of buffet.

Customer Service

The customer service at the hotel was great! Honestly they have really good customer service – I have no complaints here.  For example. There was a morning I got a little upset over my breakfast taking 40 minutes+  and they ended up giving me extra food. They staff generally knew how to deal with guests and were nice.

Issues

The only issue in had at this hotel is their booking system. The only reason we stayed in two different room is because they didn’t have our booking on their system and this seems to be a common issue. My siblings and I all booked via Booking.com but only my booking was not there. They ended up upgrading me which was great but if that room was not available what would I have done? My uncle also stayed here a few weeks later and booked directly on their website, because he knew what happened to me he called them up and they also didn’t have his booking on the system. Fortunately they had rooms available for his dates.

If you book via booking.com or whatever platform I think you should still call them. Don’t bank on the fact that you are getting messages via Booking.com because I received a generic message on Booking.com saying they were looking forward to having me but then my booking was not on their internal system. I think they are having issues with reconciling their different booking platforms together. This could be a big problem if they have no rooms left and it’s late at night or its peak season ie December. What would a customer do?

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed my stay at the White Orchid Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. The room and hotel was clean, comfy and affordable. I just was not happy with the booking issues and hope they can sort that out. You can check out this video for a full video on all amenities,
