Looking for a budget friendly hostel in Hong Kong? The Rainbow Lodge Hostel may be just what you are looking for. Unfortunately it seems the hostel has closed down! This post should give you an idea on what a hostel in Hong Kong can be like.
Location and Getting There
Rainbow Lodge HK is located at Flat 501, 5/F, Hai Phong Mansion, 101 Nathan Road Hong Kong. It is in a great location with public transport and famous sites close by.
From the airport I took the A21bus to Cameron Road and the Hai Phong Mansion( the hostel building) was right in front of me. Rainbow Lodge is right by the MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station and is super close to the Star Ferry Pier. Overall it is in a very good location and is not far from the airport by bus.
A21 Bus
A21 Bus
The A21 was super easy to get to from the airport and it cost 33 Hong Kong Dollars. If you are using cash rather than a travel card make sure you have the exact fair because this bus does not give change.
It is located in a high rise building where other hostels, businesses and restaurants are also located which may put some people off BUT Hong Kong is short on space so the majority of hostels are probably also in a high rise building with other companies. After a certain time the front door of the entire building required a fob/card to be able to enter so it was still a secure building.
Just a little friendly reminder- because there are other people coming in and out of the building be careful and make sure not to follow anyone.

The Room
I stayed in an 8 bed female room, there are also 6 and 4 bed female rooms as well as mixed dorms. There were three beds per bunk. Each bed has a curtain for privacy, a lamp and plug sockets by the bed.
I LOVED the privacy of the curtains and it meant that if you wanted to turn on your night light you were not disturbing anyone. SCORE!

The Showers and Toilets
There were two showers and two toilets for our room. (We shared this with another room). I loved that the toilets and showers were separate. It can be super annoying when the shower and toilet are in the same room at a hostel. The showers and toilets were cleaned regularly and the rooms were also very clean.

Price
I paid 204 HKD per night for the 8 bed female room. Mixed dorms tend to be cheaper but I am very particular about staying in female rooms.
Overall Opinion and Score
I enjoyed staying here because of the location, the reception service and the cleaning services. If you have any questions let me know and I will do my best to answer them.
I give the Rainbow Lodge a strong 7/10. It would have gotten an 8 but Hong Kong is short on space and the hostel is located in a high rise with other companies and restaurant. They do not own their own floor but the rooms are very secure with a swipe card. There was actually a temple next door to my room which meant we would have people walk by our door so you would need to be careful that no one was following you.
